YOU CAN STILL EXPERIENCE TRAVEL WANDERLUST!

At the moment, one cannot think about travel without also thinking about COVID-19. It is alright to feel anxious about what lies ahead. Monitoring what the CDC, WHO, and health authorities are saying regarding social distancing and quarantine is smart, even if it means putting your travel plans on hold. However, until we are able to explore the world again, we at Classic Travel Connection have a few ways for you to quench your wanderlust without leaving your house. Movies and films have a way of transforming us to a magical place and give us a glimpse as to what the world holds. Here are a few of our favorite movies that have inspired travel.

On Disney+

Disney movies have inspired more than just fun getaways to their amusement parks to see Minnie, Mickey, and their friends. Several months ago we posted about Travel Inspired by Disney Movies on our blog, you can check it out here. But, in reality, that blog barely scratched the surface - there are so many more films to choose from that allow you to see the world on the big screen. A vast majority of National Geographic’s documentaries and films are on Disney+, not only do these allow you an escape to some of the greatest wonders of the world, but they are also a great educational experience for your kids who are also stuck at home. You have a variety of choices; from films closer to home such as Into the Grand Canyon and America’s National Parks to something more exotic like Stonehenge Decoded and Wild Russia.

There are also several more TV Shows on Disney+ that dive into animals around the world, go exploring for hidden cities, or dive beneath the surface of one of our world’s oceans. The possibilities are endless, allowing you to dream big about your next adventure while sitting at home!

On Netflix

Netflix has everything: from true crime to sports and rom-coms. Every movie has a setting, and several of those places are some of our favorites from around the world.

If you're a fan of period pieces, Netflix offers several movies and shows based in historical places like England, France, Spain, and Germany. Learn about Queen Elizabeth I and Mary Queen of Scots as you explore Great Britain and Scotland. Explore the complicated lives of the Tudors while also seeing the French countryside. Or opt for a World War II drama or documentary set throughout Europe and Russia.

If you’re looking for a nice movie with some adventure, there’s plenty to choose from. National Treasure is a family favorite and dives deep into the roots of the USA while also uncovering hidden secrets. There’s also the Indiana Jones movies that are full of action throughout several countries in Europe and the Middle East.

Whatever your movie tastes are, Netflix has it all. Let Netflix take you on an adventure!

Amazon Prime

Though we are tempted to only recommend Downton Abbey (how can we not?) There are several other shows and movies on Prime that jet off to amazing places. For a cozy night with just you and your spouse, a few of our favorites include Poldark, Jack Ryan, Covert Affairs, The Farewell and Troop Zero. While all of these are different in terms of genre and mood, each is set on a beautiful backdrop, whether it be the rolling hills of the English coast or in the rural towns of Georgia. There are also several documentaries on Prime that range from Cold War docu-series to True Crime shows. For the kids, there are several animated TV shows and cartoons that take place both beneath the ocean and in countries around the world.

Specific Travel Movies

Though we’ve given you several movies that have amazing settings, we do have a few favorites that are specifically popular for their traveling:

  • Eat, Pray, Love: a timeless classic with Julia Roberts that is heartwarming and funny. Plus, it takes place in amazing destinations like Italy and India!

  • The Secret Life of Walter Mitty: Though his exploring happens equally in his own mind as it does in real life, this is a charming feel-good movie that is sure to lift your spirits as you follow Mitty from Iceland to the Himalayas to Los Angeles.

  • Midnight in Paris: one of our favorite cities with a fantastical twist! See what it’s like when modern day Paris and Jazz Age Paris collide.

  • Tracks: Be prepared to be inspired. Based on a true story, this cinematic adventure follows a woman’s amazing trek across the Australian continent.

These are just a few of the many movies and shows we love that take place within incredible settings. Though we cannot go out and explore the world right now, we at Classic Travel Connection know these uncharted days will not last forever. We hope your case of wanderlust has not dwindled, just on pause for the moment.

As always, if you have any questions about planning a vacation or have any questions, please reach out to us. Our travel advisors would be more than happy to answer any questions you have.
